Summary
Victor Gruen's 1964 diagnosis of the American urban crisis by the architect who invented the shopping mall. Gruen argued that the automobile and suburban flight had gutted city centres and proposed pedestrianised downtowns and mixed-use cores as the cure. Walt Disney consulted Gruen's ideas when planning the urban design of Disneyland and EPCOT.
