JFK and the Unspeakable

James W. Douglass's 2008 investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, arguing that a conspiracy within the US national security state — elements of the CIA, the military, and organised crime — orchestrated the murder because Kennedy had begun to challenge the Cold War consensus on Vietnam, Cuba, and nuclear disarmament. Douglass uses declassified documents and interviews to build a case that Kennedy's turn toward peace in his final months made him a target of the 'Unspeakable' — a term he borrows from Thomas Merton to describe the structural evil of a national security apparatus operating outside democratic control.
