Summary
Sir Walter Scott's 1819 historical novel set in twelfth-century England, following the dispossessed Saxon knight Wilfred of Ivanhoe as he returns from the Crusades to reclaim his inheritance and win the hand of Lady Rowena. The novel popularised the romantic medievalism that shaped Victorian culture and introduced Robin Hood to a wide audience.
