Summary
Carl Sandburg's two-volume biography of Lincoln's early life, from his Kentucky birth through his Illinois years, his boyhood on the frontier, his self-education, and his rise as a lawyer and politician in Springfield. First published in 1926, it is more impressionistic than scholarly — Sandburg the poet wrote Lincoln as an American folk epic, and it won the Pulitzer Prize.
