Summary
Marcus Luttrell's 2007 book is his first-hand account of Operation Redwing, the 2005 Navy SEAL mission in Afghanistan during which three of his four teammates were killed and a rescue helicopter was shot down with 16 more soldiers aboard. Luttrell survived the firefight, was sheltered by local villagers, and was rescued after days behind enemy lines. The book is a war narrative about duty, survival, and the bonds between special operations soldiers.
